A simple exercise to practice the days of the week as well as weather vocabulary

Weather Forecast Battleship

A paper version of the old boardgame. Using vocabulary!Each student gets 2 pages, exactly the same. I usually staple them together. The front page will be used to take notes later.On the second page the students draw 5 ships.Air Craft Carrier (5 squares)Battleship (4 squares)Cruiser (3 squares)Submarine (2 squares)Patrol Boat (2 squares)They can draw them where-ever they like vertically or horizontally. They CANNOT draw them diagonally or overlapping. Remind them to keep it a secret.Once they finish drawing they should cover their paper. They will make pairs and play rock-paper-scissors. The loser/winner asks first.They guess the location of their partner's ship by making a sentence. i.e. what is the weather forecast for tomorrow in Abashiri (or whatever place name you want to use.) Their partner will check their second page. If there is a ship they say 'hit' and the partner who asked will draw a circle on their memo paper. If there is no ship, they say 'miss' and the person who asked will draw an X on their memo paper.Once all the squares of a ship are hit the student must say 'sunk'The goal is to sink all 5 of their partner's ships.

In pairs the kids should ask the weather forecasts for the respective days and by answer, try to guess what country they are talking about,You also could change this activity, adapting for other themes. Before the kids start it, the teacher could call one of them to practice and demonstrate first how it works.Remember that each one should choose one country and keep it secret.

It includes translations for these new words, so students know what they mean.
