What's my job?

This is a writing vocabulary exercise where students fill in the blanks under each picture with the correct name of the occupation. I show a brief video that goes through each of these jobs before I give the worksheet, and when the worksheet is given out, I put a copy up on the overhead to help get the students going. This is a great exercise for spelling, and also for practicing the alphabet, as this activity can be done together as a class. Afterward, the students can keep these sheets in their binders to refer to later.

What's My Line

This worksheet takes its' theme from the popular TV and radio program "What's My Line" where people try to guess/work out the occupation of the card holder. The first page of this Word document is the background for the cards and the second page is ten occupations. These two pages should be printed 'back to back', then laminated and cut out for a longer life.Page two can easily be expanded and edited to include other occupations. (I have 30 occupations printed and this is quite enough!)The rules of the game are up to you but I have found that the '20 questions' approach with 'Yes' or 'No' type answers works well. It's also a good idea to have a list of possible questions available for your students for the first couple of times they play the game. For example: Do you wear a uniform? Is this job done mostly by men? Do you work outside?, etc.A competent educator can make this exercise work for almost any level of EnglishGood luck and thank you for downloading this fun activity.

What's my Line?

Cut up into cards. Give out one at a time to students (big classes can do the exercise in groups). The rest of the class take it in turns to ask questions of the student with the card to find out their job. Student may only answer "yes/no" if a beginner or "Yes, I do/am/it does etc" if a little more advanced. Set a limit of 20 questions. Can also be used for advanced groups as a warm-up activity.
